Priyaswami's and Ram Niwas's presence of mind saved passenger lives on Tuesday in in New Delhi. While examining railway track between Yamuna and Tilak Bride, both track men found a six inch gap between the tracks over a section. The moment they spotted the gap, they found Shiv Ganga Express was approaching towards them at a considerable speed. Immediately Priyaswami ran towards train waving red towel to alert loco pilot. Driver saw the track man running towards train with red toweel and immediately applied emergency brakes averting any disaster. The train stopped few meters before the gap.

This was not the first time Ram Niwas had averted any disaster. 3 years ago a similar incident occurred when he spotted gap between tracks. Then he immediately alerted seniors through phone, however this time neither Ram Niwas or Priyaswami had phone with them to call station master.

Priyaswami told, "I could make out from the metal’s silver colour that it was a fresh break. We could hear the train siren at a distance. We knew, we had only few minutes to stop the train. I had a gamchha while Ram Niwas was carrying a wornout red flag."

Train running with a speed of 50 to 60 kmph can stop in atleast 100 meters.
