Title - Thripunithura Station set to regain old glory
Posted by : riteshexpert on Oct 26, 2012 - 15:30:03 PM

History has it that the royal kingdom of Thripunithura, in the beginning of the 20th century, had surrendered gold ornaments to lay the railway line from Shornur to Thripunithura. But for decades now, the station has been categorised as a ‘D’ or low prominence station.

All that will change with the Railways allocating halts for more trains here, improving infrastructure and giving the station a facelift.

“We have initiated a host of projects to give a facelift to the station. The platform roof work is going on. We are increasing the number of ticket counters and setting up seating and toilet facilities,” a railway official said.

The station will soon have CCTVs, automatic announcement system and train display system. The funds for this are to come from the funds allotted to MP P. Rajeev to spend on his constituency.

“The approach roads on both sides of the station are also being upgraded and now tarring work remains. While one road is fully funded by us, the municipality will be financing the other,” the official said.

All credit should go to the incessant efforts of the Tripunithura Rajanagari Union Residents’ Association, an apex body of 99 resident associations, which has been pushing for the upgrading of the station.

“Now they have allotted a stop to the Vanchinad Express after we ran from pillar to post. They have also promised to consider demands for a stop for the Parasuram Express and to extend the Guruvayoor-Ernakulam passenger to Chottanikkara,” said V.C. Jayendran, convener, TRURA.
