VASCO: Thousands of passengers on their way to Vasco were put to a great inconvenience as the three passengers trains they were traveling in were delayed by nearly about 2 hours on Saturday afternoon, following the incident of landslide that occurred along the railway track, near Kosti, between Sanvordem and Kalem railway stations.According to the information from the highly placed sources at the Vasco railway station and also from South Western Railway, Hubli division, three passenger trains coming from Collem, Chennai (Chennai Vasco Express) and Howrah (Howrah Amravati Express) had to be halted before they could reach Kalem, following the incident of landslide which was probably due to the heavy rain on Saturday afternoon.It was informed that mud from a hillock came down on to the railway track in between Sanvordem and Kalem railway stations near Kosti at around 12.30 p.m.The railway engineering staff after receiving the call immediately rushed to the site and carried out the operation to clear the rail track. Although, the work of removing the mud was carried out within some time, the railway authorities restored the rail services only after checking the affected portion of the track thoroughly. The trains arrived safely later in the evening to the Vasco railway station.Meanwhile, the Bangalore-bound Vasco-Yeshwantpur Express passenger train, which was supposed to leave the Vasco railway station later in the evening at around 8.45 p.m., was delayed by two hours in view of the delayed arrival of the three passenger trains. Hundreds of passengers who were supposed to travel by Vasco-Yeshwantpur Express were stranded at the railway station. The passengers have expressed anger at the railway authorities for not informing about the reason for the delay. The passengers complained that the authorities at the railway station were tight-lipped when questioned about the cause of delay in resuming the journey by the Vasco-Yeshwantpur Express and added that they were in dilemma for hours together. |
