NAKODAR (JALANDHAR): Three persons were injured when a car was hit by a train on an unmanned railway crossing in village Mahuwal in Nakodar sub-division on Monday evening. Irate villagers, who rescued the injured and rushed them to hospital, blocked railway traffic alleging that this was an accident prone site but railways had done little for its manning despite their long pending demand. In September last year an accident at the same place had taken lives of three school children while six were injured when a school bus was hit by a train. It is learnt that the accident took place at around 4.45 PM when Alto car was hit by Ludhiana - Lohian DEMU at the crossing. The car driver could not notice the DEMU. The crossing is in the middle of the village and houses are located on its either side.A youngman Krantijeet Singh of village Mehatpur was on the wheel and two girls were travelling in the car. The train hit the car and the vehicle was thrown away in a water filled pond near the railway track. Villagers rushed to the place after hearing the bang and took out the trio from the car. After the rescue operation the villagers blocked the crossing while protesting against Railway authorities. After the accident at the crossing last year villagers had raised the demand for manning of the crossing very strongly but nothing has happened till now. Villagers said that it was third accident in the last few years at the crossing and was becoming a deadly crossing. |
