Title - Testing of trains for Green Line begins today at Peenya depot

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) will commence testing on Wednesday of the “green trains” on the test tracks at the Peenya Depot. These trains are meant to cater to the Green Line on the North-South Corridor of Namma Metro Phase 1.Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda made this announcement after reviewing the progress of Namma Metro with BMRCL officials here on Tuesday. The commercial run on Reach 3 and 3A between Peenya and Sampige Road Metro Stations is likely to commence by April 2013, Mr. Gowda said.

‘PROGRESS SATISFACTORY’
The Chief Minister said progress of civil works on all reaches of Namma Metro had been good with the near completion of Reach 3 between Yeshwanthpur and Sampige Road, except the Sandal Soap Factory Station. About 89 per cent of work was complete on Reach 2 between City Railway Station Metro Station and Mysore Road Terminal and 90 per cent of work was complete on Reach 4 and 4A between K.R. Road and Puttenahalli, he said. The two-level underground station at Majestic will be ready by April-May 2014 completing the entire network of Namma Metro Phase 1.

SHIFTING THE STATUE

Referring to controversy over shifting of the Ambedkar statue in front of the Vidhana Soudha, Mr. Gowda said he would meet the Minister concerned in a day or two. Dalit groups have been opposing the shifting of the statue, hampering work.

BMRCL commenced trial run between Byappanahalli and M.G. Road stations on February 16, 2011 and launched the commercial operation on October 20, 2011 on this 6.7 km stretch. On Namma Metro Phase 2, Mr. Gowda said the State was in touch with the Union Urban Development Ministry for project approval and sharing of the project cost.
