A technical fault in overhead equipment disrupted train services in the Tatanagar-Rourkela section of South Eastern Railway for about two hours on Friday afternoon.
At least half a dozen trains, including Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Express (down), Tata-Patna South Bihar Express, Tata-Danapur Express (down) and Tata-Chhapra Express (down) ran behind schedule when the overhead equipment developed a fault near Goelkera station in Chakradharpur division around 1pm.
Janshatabdi Express, which was scheduled to reach Barbil, Odisha, around 1.30pm, was also delayed by around 30 minutes.
Railway sources said engineers, who were rushed to the site, took about two hours to repair the fault and restore normal traffic.
“Train services were disrupted in the Chakradharpur division due to the breakdown of overhead equipment near Goelkera. Tata-Chhapra Express was already running late. It got delayed further as we could not provide a platform for its arrival,” said a railway official at Tatanagar.
As trains reached late, waiting passengers at Tatanagar, especially those bound for Bihar, created a ruckus.
“I had to reach Chhapra by Friday morning for an important business meeting. Now, I don’t know what to do,” said Ramesh Prasad, a passenger.
This was the second time in less than two weeks that train services were affected in this division.
On July 31, a technical snag at Brijrajnagar disrupted services onthe Howrah-Mumbai main line.
