South Western Railway’s power lifting team has won the silver medal in the team event at the All India Inter-Railway Power Lifting Championship held in Mumbai recently.The SWR power lifting team, led by Abdul Munaf, secured the medal for its overall performance in the championship hosted by the Western Railway Sports Association at the Mahalaxmi Sports Grounds in Mumbai.Mr. Munaf, a former bronze medallist at the Asian Power Lifting Championship, also won a gold medal in the 120 kg category, while his team mate P. Wilson won a silver in the same category.In the 120 kg and above category, their teammate T. Ramakrishnan won a bronze medal while Saravanan and P. Udaishanker won bronze medals in the 74 and 59 kg categories respectively. Their teammate V. Anandan contested in the 74 kg category despite fever, and finished fifth.According to a release issued by the SWR, this is the first team medal for South Western Railway in the competitive annual event in which 14 teams from across the country participated. Coach Pavanasam and manager P. Muralikrishnan accompanied the team. |
