The South Western Railway had run eight special trains besides three regular services during the last three days following the massive exodus of panic- stricken people of North East.Disclosing this to reporters here, Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa said in all 151 coaches were used by the special trains with coaches drawn from Central and Southern Railway besides SWR. New coaches supplied by BEML were also used, he said.He appreciated the efforts of the state government and the railway officials in ensuring the safe movement of passengers to Assam.Mr Muniyappa appealed to the people of Assam who left Bangalore to return and resume their business and studies without any fear.He said, "Assam is an integral part of India and people of Assam have every right to live anywhere in the country.Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi have visited and studied the situation in Assam and have taken every step to bring normalcy in the region." He announced Rs 2,00,000 award for Bangalore Division and Rs 1,00,000 award for South Western Railway Zone for having risen to the occasion and striving to make arrangement for transportation of the people of Assam. |
