In an attempt to attract more tourists towards train travel, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) will run a special tourist train ‘Dakshin Darshan’ to south India on August 7.IRCTC additional general manager Rahul Himalian said on Wednesday that this train will leave from Ahmedabad railway station on August 7. It will also collect passengers from Kalyan and Pune. The train in its journey till August 16 will be covering tourist places like Goa, Tirupati, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Trivandrum and Kovalam.Himalian said the seats of the train have been divided into two categories, namely Standard and Comfort. Fares for the standard category will be Rs12,649, while comfort category will cost Rs18,499.Even as IRCTC is running this train for the third time in this year, it is not getting a similar response compared to its last two trips. Himalian said, “Our first trip in January carried 1,000 tourists, while 700 people took our second trip in March. However, we have got bookings of only 400 tourists yet, but hope to attract more.” |
