SALEM: A notorious history-sheeter, who was recently sentenced to death for raping, robbing and murdering a woman on board a train in 2010, was produced before a court here on Monday in connection with a robbery case. A native of Aaivadhakudi, Govindasamy (30), has been charged in several cases of rape, robbery and murder. In 2010, Govindasamy raped and murdered a woman, Sowmya, on board an Ernakulam-bound train. The Kerala Railway Police, who filed a case, subsequently arrested him. Recently, he was sentenced to death by a Fast Track Court in Thrissur. Currently lodged in the Kannur prison, Govindasamy was brought to the Salem court on Monday amid tight security, by the Kerala Police. He was summoned by the Ist additional sub Judge K Kalavathi in connection with a robbery case registered against him in Salem. On January 20, 2009, he allegedly attacked and robbed a person called Neelamekam, at Sooramangalam. Govindasamy, who did not engage a lawyer as he wanted to represent himself, and a few witnesses were cross-examined in connection with the theft case on Monday. |
