Title - Southern Railway plans TRACK tie-up

Southern Railway is planning to send its personnel for training and volunteer work in basic life support techniques to Trauma Care Society Kozhikode (TRACK).

“It was a pleasant surprise to see the report in The Hindu [‘Angels on the accident site’]. We discovered that this was such a potent resource to train our personnel, especially in underwater rescue,” Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad, Mohan A. Menon, said.

Mr. Menon said Railways would soon invite TRACK office-bearers for a discussion to arrange for sending personnel for the training classes.

“We face specific problems on our northern tracks. Underwater examinations have revealed several ‘distress’ bridges such as the one at Kadalundi on the route,” he said emphasising the need for men trained in rescue operations within the railway establishment.

Food poisoning case

Mr. Menon said the recent food poisoning case in Duronto Express and the Kadalundi train accident were grim reminders that the railway establishment needed in-house personnel trained to meet emergencies.
