Title - South Eastern Railway registers the highest growth rate in earnings and number of passengers in PRS

KOLKATA: South Eastern Railway has registered the highest growth rate of 20.36% amongst all the Zonal Railways in the PRS(Passenger Reservation System) earnings during the first six months of the current financial year 2012-13(April to September).

PRS EARNINGS :

The total PRS earnings of South Eastern Railway in the first six months of the current financial year has been Rs.445.80 crores as against Rs.370.38 crores earned during the last year. This growth of 20.36% by S.E.Railway is the highest in the Indian Railways. North Western Rly with 16.63%, Western Rly with 16.50% and Central Rly with 16.32% are in the 2nd ,3rd and 4thposition as far as PRS earnings are concerned.

GROWTH IN THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS:

As far as the number of passengers booked on PRS is concerned, SER has again registered the highest growth of 15.31% amongst all the Zonal Railways during April to September 2012-13. The 2nd & 3rd position have been occupied by North Western Rly with 15.1% and West Central Rly with 12.93% growth over last year.

TOTAL PASSENGER EARNINGS:

The total passenger earnings of Rs.630.43 crores of S.E.Railway is 14.96% higher than last year. This growth is the 2nd highest in the Indian Railways and is 2.6% more than the proportionate target.

South Eastern Railway has made several efforts for meeting the demands of passengers in the reserved segment of long distance trains. The waiting list position of all the trains is analyzed on day to day basis. The reservation quotas available in the different stations are also being analyzed periodically for full utilization and maximization of revenue. 85 pairs of special trains are being run in the festive season to destination like Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Yesvantpur, Chennai, Puri, Hyderabad, Anand Vihar, Alipurduar, Katihar and Saharsa.

Additional coaches have also been attached to 26 mail/express trains.
