Railway Ministry and Central government has started giving enough signs to bring a new rail zone for Andhra Pradesh in the form of South Coast Railway. The new railway zone can be termed as outcome of immense pressure asserted by Andhra Pradesh government along with public representatives on Central government.

However, an official statement is yet to be made but it is expected that to form South Coast Railway, Rail ministry will cut down East Coastal Railway and South Central Railway (SCR). SCR divisions of Guntakal, Vijayawada and Guntur are to be carved out for the new zone. On the other hand places like Kurnool, Dhone and Jaggaiahpet will be left of to retain in Hyderabad and Secunderabad division due to logistics reason.

Formation of new zone means it would be the centrally located for trains passing from north to south, east to south and from west to south originating from Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata onwards to Chennai, Bangalore and Kerala through junctions of Balharshah, Kazipet and Vijaywada.
