By launching first solar train on July 14, Indian Railways has set the tone for the future of Indian Railways. The first solar DEMU train will run from Delhi Sarai Rohilla to Farukh Nagar in Haryana. A total of 16 solar panels were installed over six coaches producing 300Wp. With make in India initiative all these solar panels were manufactured and installed in India with a cost of Rs 54 lakh. This train can run on batteries for at least 72 hours with ability of generating 17 units of power in a day. With 50 more such coaches in line railway is estimating 1.2 lakh kilo litre of diesel every year. This will allow railway to pocke Rs 672 crore per year. Besides this solar power will also help in reducing 2.7 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emission per year. |
