LUCKNOW: An accident at an unmanned level crossing (ULC) in Varanasi division of North Eastern Railway left six persons dead on Friday. The accident took place when a Tata Indica car (UP54 D 5598) rammed into an empty inspection carriage running with engine number 16384 at an unmanned level crossing at Mau-Bhatni rail section. The accident took place around 2.00 p.m. The deceased include three men and three women, travelling in the car. All were grievously injured in the accident, and later succumbed to their injuries. As a result of the accident, main rail line on the section got blocked. Railways has been running a month long awareness campaign on safe movement along ULCs in Lucknow division.Railways does not take the responsibility for any accident at ULC. "People should follow a rule as simple as they follow to cross a road," said Amit Singh, CPRO, NER. The route was restored in the evening. |
