Guwahati : At least seven people were killed and three others were injured in three separate landslide incidents in Assam in the past 48 hours, police said on Wednesday.Three people, including two minor girls, of a family were killed when they were trapped under rocks during a landslide while they were sleeping their residence at Dhirenpara area in Guwahati city on Tuesday night.The deceased were identified as Farjida Begum (42 years) and her two daughters Jebina Begum (14) and Mainu begum (4).In separate incident, three people were killed and three others were injured in heavy landslides triggered by torrential rain at Mahadevtila near Haflong in Dima Hasao district on Tuesday night.One of the deceased was identified as Adiga Khan (30), while the other two were yet to be identified.In another incident, one people named Chandra Thakuria was killed in a landslide at Santipur area in Guwahati city on Monday.Torrential rain over the past few days triggered landslides at 26 places at the railway track between Lumding and Silchar of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), sources said.The NFR has been forced to cancel all trains services in the section for an indefinite period.“The workers and engineers had engaged in work to clear the track,” said a NFR official. |
