Title - Security beefed up

Even as security is being beefed up in and around the railway stations across the State in view of the Independence Day to be celebrated on Thursday, the Government Railway Police have started distributing safety awareness pamphlets to commuters.Giving tips for safe train journey, the pamphlets appeal to the public not to cross the railway track, which is not only a dangerous act but also a punishable offence. The handbills ask the passengers not to share or accept eatables or soft drinks from strangers.Besides distributing these pamphlets to the public coming to the Tirunelveli Railway Junction, the police have also started checking the baggage and the parcels arriving here. Patrolling on the platforms has been intensified.

Dindigul

The Railway Police have intensified surveillance in express and passenger trains and brought the Dindigul Railway station under security blanket ahead of the Independence Day celebrations here on Tuesday.

Already a check point has been set up at passenger ticket reservation office, entrance of the railway station to check passengers’ luggage.

Night patrolling has also been intensified on platforms. The police were travelling along with the passengers in express trains up to Tiruchi as a protection measure, Ms. Mahalakshmi added.

A door frame metal detector will be installed on Platform no.1 tomorrow to check passengers.
