Security at Pune railway station has been beefed up following repeated complaints of robbery. Recently police busted a gang of auto drivers who robs passengers after picking them up from station. Railway police has increased surveillance and are making announcements continuously asking passengers to take precautions. Earlier cyber cell of Pune police arrested gang of auto drivers who had robbed as many as 50 passengers. Once they pick passenger from station, they used to stop their vehicle midway claiming breakdown. In the meantime they ask the passenger to wait for the alternate vehicle but in reality they wait for their acquaintance to rob the passenger. Police now have made compulsory for auto drivers to display their identity cards issued by RTO (regional transport office). Apart from the robbery gang of auto drivers there are other complaints against them such as never-ever any auto rickshaw take passengers on meter; the moment passenger exits the main gate, auto rickshaw drivers pounce on them and even if you try to hire from prepaid booth, there is hardly any auto available. |
