South Central Railway organized a function to observe Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Bharat RathnaDr. B.R. Ambedkar today (6th December, 2012) and paid fittinghomage to mark his 56th death anniversary. ShriMaheshChandra, Additional General Manager & Chief Controller of Stores, SC Railway, the Chief Guest o­n the occasion, lighted a ceremonial lamp. Many dignitaries present o­n the occasion garlanded the statue ofDr. B. R. Ambedkar.Shri Mahesh Chandra remembered the tremendous contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkartowards developinga classless egalitarian society in the country especially by up-lifting thedown-trodden. No society will prosper unless every section of the society attains equality in terms of dignity, knowledge and economy, he added.ShriT.P.V.S. Shekar Rao, Chief Personnel Officer (Industrial Relations), SC Rly.while addressing at the function, said that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is regarded as the messiah of downtrodden since he made provisions in the Constitution of India for theemancipation of weaker sections in the society. SC Railway is implementing all directives of Govt. of India to ensure that there is no indiscrimination committed against SC, ST, and BC railway employees.

Speaking o­n the occasion, Shri Ch. Shankar Rao, General Secretary, South Central Railway Mazdoor Union, said that Dr. Ambedkar’s relentless war against social evils such as cast system yielded fruits, he added. Shri V.V. Naik, President, South Central Railway SC & ST Employees’ Association cautionedthat if inequality in the Indian society is allowed to continue, it may lead to civil unrest. He appealed every o­ne to honour Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by actinguponhis doctrines and emulating his model.
