Vijayawada, Aug 14 (PTI) A Railway union today asked Ministry of Railways to scrap all outsourcing contracts immediately. A resolution to this effect was passed at the two-day 42nd annual general council meeting of South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU) which ended here today. At the end of proceedings, SCRMU General Secretary Shankara Rao released the details of resolutions passed at the meet to the media. The union has asked the Railway administration to strictly implement eight-hour duty schedule for all workers instead of 12 hours. It said asking to work for 12 hours is an inhuman practice and also against the charter of United Nations. It sought steps to fill up all existing vacancies in the transport undertaking, particularly the backlog in ST/SC categories. Finally, the union demanded setting up of a medical and nursing college at Secunderabad as promised in the Rail Budget for 2012-13. SCRMU also elected V P R Pillai as its President and Rao as General Secretary. |
