Title - Science Express enthralls young minds

Science Express that arrived at the Khadki railway station on Wednesday morning is the talk of the town among students, teachers and citizens. The mobile exhibition is a collaborative initiative of department of science and technology ((DST) and ministry of environment and forests (MoEF).Launched in 2007 to promote and focus on science, the theme chosen this year is biodiversity. Centre for Environment Education (CEE) programme officer Aditya Ray, “CEE has designed the first eight coaches of this 16-coach train. We have focused on four topics — endangered species, why are they endangered and how to conserve them; and people, their culture and their relation with nature.”Science Express coordinator Chitra Upadhaya said, “I have been to various other cities with the Express and I found Pune students sharper, as they pointed out to us that we haven’t highlighted about organisms. It is a pleasure to see the overwhelming response.” Coaches showcase myriad biodiversity spread across the Himalayas, Gangetic plains, deserts, Western Ghats, Deccan Peninsula, the coasts and islands. The exhibition also covers coastal and agro biodiversity and livelihood challenges. The exhibition is on till Saturday.
