Title - SC Railway aims at Rs 1,250-cr additional freight revenue this fiscal

HYDERABAD, JUNE 30:  The South Central Railway expects to earn an additional freight revenue Rs 1,250 crore this fiscal on account of the recent freight rate hike.

Last fiscal, the zone notched up a freight revenue of over Rs 8,200 crore, registering a seven per cent increase over the previous fiscal.

Mr G.N. Asthana, General Manager of SC Railway, said the zone did a throughput of over 100 million tones, despite some setback in the form of lesser coal movement from Singareni Collieries due to the Telengana agitation last fiscal.

“This fiscal, our target is 110 million tonnes, but we are confident of doing more than this,’’ he told mediapersons after launching the new railway timetable today.

In the first quarter of the current fiscal, the zone did a throughput of 27 mt, about three mt more than the correspondent quarter of last fiscal.

The Indian Railways had announced a hike in freight rates in March this year.

In the current fiscal, the division has got 25 of the 75 new trains announced in the Railway Budget. Out of these, 15 are originating/terminating at Secunderabad and the remaining 10 are fast trains that will pass through the station.

Some of the new trains such as Hyderabad-Ajmer will be introduced in the first week of next month, Mr Asthana said.
