Title - Satelitte imagery to be used by Indian Railways to map its assets across the country

To manage its assets across the country, Indian Railways will use satelliet imagery to maintain and monitor. A MoU regarding the same has been signed between ISRO and Indian Railways.

According to railways, this will help to identify any encroachment around stations. By December this year, geographic information system (GIS) platform is likely to get complete across the country.

Railway hoped to monitor and maintain its assets through this system in a more productive way as its assets are spread over a very large area.

After development of GIS portal, it may be possible to identify new encroachment all around station by comparing the images of satellite imagery which are updated by ISRO after a regular interval.
