Southern Railway continued its dream run in the St. Joseph’s-CFA senior division league as it posted a 3-0 win over 10-man AGORC in an entertaining match here on Monday. This result strengthens Southern Railway’s position at the top of the table with four wins out of four.Despite winning by a convincing margin, the railwaymen’s path to victory was not straightforward as AGORC threatened constantly until Edison was sent-off for a horrific tackle on Elamurugan in the 60th minute. Both the teams began brightly and the first major chance fell to AGORC’s striker Vinoth Kumar, who hit the crossbar with a powerful right-footed shot. Southern Railway began to assert its dominance in the second half as P.C. Riju grew in prominence. In the 52nd minute, the diminutive striker started the move for the first goal which was scored by R. Rajesh. After AGORC was reduced to 10 men, its defence opened up and as a result of that, the railwaymen scored twice again to seal the victory. Of the two goals, Sirajudeen’s effort was remarkable as he struck a stunning first-time right-footed shot from the left edge of the box to score. |
