The Ticket checking staff of South Central Railway, under the direct supervision of Shri Gnaneswara Rao, Chief Commercial Manager/Catering & Passenger Service, Shri. R. Venkateswara Rao, Dy. Chief Commercial Manager (General) and Shri N.V.Satyanarayana, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager/Vijayawada, conducted a massive Fortress Check at Vijayawada Railway Station o­n 13th Sept 2013. During the checks, all possible escape routes in the station were sealed with Security Personnel.

For carrying out the check, 117 Ticket checking staff, 20 Railway Protection Force, 31 Government Railway Police personnel, 22 Bharat Scouts & Guides, were mobilized and pressed into action. Sixty four important Express trains and 51 Passenger trains were thoroughly checked at Vijayawada station without leaving any scope for the errants to escape.

As a result of the surprise check, a total of 1466 cases were detected for committing ticketless / irregular travel.  An amount of Rs 5.08 Lakh was realized towards penalty from these persons. The effect of the fortress check resulted in rise of sale of journey tickets across ticket counters by 15% and the sale of platform ticket by 33%.
