The State government has allotted a sum of Rs.225.60 crore for taking up road and bridges expansion work in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam district during the year 2012-13, said Edapadi K.Palanisamy, Minister for Highways and Small Ports at Budalur near here on Thursday.Roads covering a distance of 409 kms are being expanded in the three districts using the amount allotted under the infrastructure development and maintenance head of the Department of Highways. Some bridge works have also been taken up.The Minister inspected the construction of the railway road overbridge at a cost of Rs.16.30 crore on Thirukattuppalli-Sengipatti road at Budalur. This bridge is being constructed by Public Works Department.PWD has taken up construction of nine such bridges at a cost of Rs.117.57 crore in Thanjavur district.Under integrated road improvement scheme of the highways department, 71 road works, 24 bridges and two building constructions have been taken in Thanjavur highways division at a cost of Rs.163.97 crore. Under National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) scheme, 10 road works at a cost of Rs.38.87 crore have been taken up in Thanjavur and Nagapattinam highways divisions. Twenty-three bridge works have also been taken up at a cost of Rs.100.64 crore. |
