A new Road over Bridge (RoB) at Sanjeevaiah Nagar has been sanctioned to ease traffic snarls at the narrow level-crossing.“The Revenue Department, the Guntur Municipal Corporation, and the Railways will begin an exercise to prepare the estimates for land acquisition and development of the arterial road,” district Collector S. Suresh Kumar said at a meeting on road traffic held here on Thursday. The RoB will cost Rs.50 crore and the Roads and Buildings Department and the Railways should submit a plan as soon as possible, Mr. Suresh Kumar said. The meeting, held in the backdrop of increasing traffic related problems in the town, saw officials of the GMC, the VGTM UDA, and the R&B taking part and coming up with plans to mitigate the traffic snarls. Mr. Suresh Kumar appeared keen on improving road engineering, one of the three corner stones of effective traffic management in growing cities (the other two being education and enforcement). The other major plans included widening of the existing two-lane road from Perecharla to Chuttugunta into a four-lane road and widening of the stretch between Palnadu bus stand and Chuttugunta. The R&B Department had sent proposals to construct five culverts at an estimated cost of Rs.23 crore on the proposed roads.A proposal to widen the road between the Communist memorial at Chuttugunta and Ethu Road was also examined. |
