The Southern Railway has decided to engage retired railway employees to help commuters obtain tickets from the Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) installed at several suburban railway stations.Designated as “facilitators”, these staff will not only help commuters get their tickets with ease, but also will educate them about the benefits of these ATVMs.According to a press release, the scheme was introduced at the Perambur railway station on a trial basis on Monday.More such staff will be deployed at the Tambaram railway station in a few days, and in about a month, at 29 other stations across the Chennai division, the release added.ATVMs have been installed in most of the suburban stations, through which passengers can obtain tickets using smart cards. However, these “facilitators” have been appointed due to serpentine queues at the booking counters, the release further added. |
