Title - Residents demand halt of all express trains at Panagudi

Demanding regular stoppage of all express trains at Panagudi, residents of this town panchayat on the Tirunelveli – Nagercoil National Highway took out a rally in their hamlet on Friday.The rallyists, led by Tirunelveli MP S.S. Ramasubbu and Radhapuram MLA S. Michael Royappan, held placards and banners that demanded stoppage of all trains including express trains at Panagudi and also the creation of a computerised ticket reservation counters.The protestors from all walks of life and affiliated to various political parties said though the railway officials, in the presence of Mr. Ramasubbu, had earlier promised to take all steps to ensure the stoppage of express trains and the establishment of computerised ticket reservation counters at Panagudi, they had forgotten the assurance.The rally that commenced at Panagudi bus stand ended at the railway station after passing through Main Road and Market Ground.“If the railway officials still continue to ignore our genuine demands, we’ll stop the Chennai-bound Kanyakumari Express train at Panagudi on August 17,” the protestors warned.
