The Red Ribbon Express will arrive in Chennai on Sunday around 2 p.m. The air-conditioned eight-coach train creates awareness on AIDS and HIV infection besides giving information on infections such as tuberculosis, A (H1N1) and malaria.The train will arrive at platform no. 11 on Sunday around 2 p.m. and will leave the city on Wednesday around 9 p.m. So far, the train has travelled to seven districts. At each station that the train halted, blood donation camps, counselling and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and reproductory tract infections, were organised.The train has travelled to Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Karur, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Nagapattinam and Vellore, said Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society project director A. C. Mohandoss. Women, more than men, came to visit the exhibits on the Red Ribbon Express, which has travelled to seven districts in the State since May 9. Of the 4.3 lakh people who visited the exhibition on the train, 2.84 lakh were women.On Friday, a three-day workshop on implementation of NABH blood bank standards was inaugurated. The programme was organised by National AIDS Control Organisation. A total of 19 medical officers from various blood banks in the state participated. |
