KOLKATA: Eastern Railway has achieved highest ever loading of goods for any October in the last 10 years. There has been a coal loading of 3.284 million tonnes and total loading of 4.698 million tonnes in October 2012. Thereby registering an appreciable improvement in coal loading by 9.36 per cent and 3.55 per cent in total loading.

"This is the best ever performance by Eastern Railway in any October since bifurcation of zonal Railway in 2002 surpassing the previous best of 3.003 million tonnes of coal loading and 4.537 million tonnes of total loading achieved in October 2011," a Eastern Railway release said.

The overall loading during the first seven months of the current financial year has been encouraging and has touched the level of 34.332 million tonnes during April to October 2012.

This has been possible due to record loading of coal by Eastern Railway registering an increase of 19.70 per cent due to better offering of coal by both private and public sector coal companies within the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway.

So far earnings from the loading of goods is concerned, there has been a quantum jump in earning also. From April to October 2012, Eastern Railway has earned ' 2465.40 crores as against 1965.56 crores earned from April to October 2011. Thereby it has registered a stiff increase of 24.43 per cent in earnings from goods traffic during the first seven months of the current financial year.
