Railway ministry has come up with new classification criteria for railway stations. Now stations will be classified based on passengers usage. Until now the criteria used for classifications of railway stations was totally based on number tickets booked on a station.
On South Western Railway the classification will move from A1, A, B, D and onward. Bengaluru City and Yesvantpur station belongs to A1 category with an annual earnings of more than Rs. 60 crore.
A station will be rated as A if annual earnings amount to more than Rs 8 crore and less than Rs. 60 crore.
Similarly for B annual earning should be more than Rs 4 Crore and upto Rs. 8 Crore.
Stations with annual earning of Rs 60 lakhs to Rs 4 crore will rated as D; while stations with annual earning of Rs 60 lakh and less will given a rating of E
