Title - Ratlam railway division collects highest-ever fine

INDORE: The Ratlam division of railways collected Rs 1.02 crore as fine in May, the highest ever till date.

According to the data from railway office, Indore, the amount was collected as ticket checking earning on 26,627 cases. In May last year, the division had earned Rs 77 lakh from 21,364 cases.

In April, 2013-14, a total number of 21,316 cases were booked and earning was Rs 78 lakh.

Last year in April, earning was Rs 60 lakh and 17,037 cases were registered. In 2012-13, more than 24 lakh passengers were fined for travelling without ticket and railway ticket checking earning was Rs 8.82 crore.

Ratlam division PRO Pradeep Sharma said officials are given target each month. The data indicate that number of passengers travelling without ticket is constantly increasing in the division.
