Jitendar | Railways to introduce new system for e-ticket booking soon on 14 September, 2012 - 08:00 PM | |
Taking a giant leap into technology domain to benefit its customers, the Railways plan to introduce the Interbank Mobile Payment Service (IMPS) in order to further ease booking of tickets online. According to senior official sources, the new revolutionary step will smoothen the e-ticketing process and be a boon for those handicapped by the absence of a credit or debit card. The IMPS system would help people book their tickets online even in the absence of a net banking facility, with the new system enabling them to make payments through the Railways' inter-bank transfer facility. Not just will the new facility be available all round the clock, it will help people make payments for their tickets even from their mobiles, albeit at a later stage. Initially, the facility of booking the ticket and making payments would be available on the IRCTC's e-ticketing website through the internet, but later payment through mobile services would also be introduced. Until now a credit or debit card or a net banking facility with a user was a must to book railway tickets online. The sources said the biggest advantage of the new facility would be saving of time, 24X7 availability, ease of operability and absolute security while transferring funds from his bank to that of the IRCTC. Besides this, at the next stage, the Railways also plans to introduce the 'Rolling Deposit Scheme' (RDS) system, where any person can deposit money in advance with the IRCTC to make payment for his ticket booking. Presently, the Railways enjoys bookings of over four lakh online tickets on a daily basis. UNI AN SW 1640 NNNN |
