Railway is getting tough on caterers providing bad quality food and those providing food on higher prices. Besides blacklisting of 16 contractors railway has also imposed a fine of rupees 1.8 crore on 2108 caterers. To provide hygienic and good quality food railways have also developed institutionalised mechanism. Through this mechanism railway will monitor quality of food and hygiene of catering services. Railway has also decided to inspect all catering services on a regular basis at various levels besides addressing catering complaints. A centralised catering service monitoring cell (CSMC) is already in operation that monitors and address passenger’s complaints related to catering. Passengers can register their complaints through a toll free number – 1800 – 11 – 321. Currently CSMC gives real time assistance upto 300 per day on an average according to railways. |
