Railway is outsourcing more of its non-core operations to private operators. Contracts for its non-core operations like managing its retiring rooms at railway stations and for housekeeping of major stations and trains, catering food, are already placed for bids. According to new catering policy railway will unbundle catering services on trains. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) will separate food distribution and food preparation so that third parties can be engaged to provide hospitality services on trains. Indian Railways is aiming more towards privatization and has decided to hand over the management of retiring rooms and dormitories to IRCTC. Similarly, Railway has outsourced housekeeping on major stations and trains so that cleanliness can be ensured. |
