Title - Railways developing eco-friendly multi-genset locomotives

The Indian Railways have manufactured the first multi-genset locomotive in India, marking another milestone in the introduction of fuel efficient technologies for diesel engines.   With this initiative, multi-genset locomotives will usher in new era of emissions compliant locomotives on Indian Railways, an official press release said.   According to it, Indian Railways have undertaken development of prototype multi-genset locomotives in the medium horse power range with 3 gensets of 800 Horse Power (HP) each amounting to a gross HP of 2400.    The trial of the first multi-genset locomotive is already going on as a pilot project at Itarsi of Bhopal Division in West Central Railway.
