The link between Satyanarayanpet and Gandhi Nagar/Basaveshwara Nagar/Nehru Colony has remained cut off even 36 hours after the process of pumping out water from the railway underpass began.Following heavy rain on Saturday night here, the railway underpass in Satyanaryanpet was filled with about 11 ft of water, cutting off the major link between the two localities.Despite using several pumpsets, including a few from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, the level of water has so far come down by about 5 ft, according to sources. It might take at least two more days to restore the link.

Improper vents
G. Somashekar Reddy, MLA, during his visit to the spot on Sunday, had accused the Railway engineers of not providing proper vents for the water to flow out while designing the underpass. He had directed the city corporation commissioner to pump out the water. Now there is a stench near the underpass, which is suspected to be from the sewage that might have got mixed with the water.

“If the authorities do not provide adequate vents at least now to ensure free flow of water, then the residents around the underpass will have to undergo this inconvenience every time there is heavy rain,” said Radhabai, an elderly woman living in the area.
