Ahead of a reshuffle in the Union Cabinet, Road and Transport and Railways Minister C P Joshi today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, fueling speculations of his quitting as Railways Minister. Mr Joshi met the Congress president at her 10, Janpath residence. Mr Joshi's meeting with Ms Gandhi came even as sources said that along with a reshuffle in the Union Cabinet, there could be a major organisational revamp in the Congress wherein AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi would be given a bigger role in the party. Sources have also said Mr Gandhi could be made the Working President of the party. The development came even as three Union Ministers - Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik and Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and offered to work for the Congress party. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister. Sources said the Prime Minister is likely to meet the Congress President later today to discuss tomorrow's Cabinet reshuffle. |
