In a bid to avert fire accidents on board trains, the Safety Wing of Southern Railway – Salem Division on Thursday launched a safety campaign to sensitise passengers on the need to avoid carrying inflammable substances with them.The drive was launched by P. Kalimuthu, Additional Divisional Railway Manager – Salem, K. Yesuratnam – Senior Divisional Safety Officer, V. Anandraj – Assistant Security Commissioner – Railway Protection Force, Public Relations Officer G.V. Venkatesan, Coimbatore Station Manager D. Chandrasekharan, Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee Member Jameel Ahmed and a host of other railway officials.Railway authorities handed over handbills to passengers.They advised them to avoid carrying inflammable substances and avoid lighting stoves and cigarettes on board trains. Officials also pasted stickers on almost all the coaches of the trains.Any act of negligence in adhering to safety norms such as carrying inflammable substances will attract punishment under the provisions of Section 164 and 165 of Indian Railways Act of 1989. |
