The wagon containing compost was to reach at Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. For 1400 kms the wagon took 3.5 years due to which compost worth Rs 10 lakh got decayed.

Owner wrote to the railways about the booked parcel but railway was unable to track down the wagon. Over this period of time the wagon kept on passing from one station to another station unnoticed. The decayed compost is now lying unattended at the Basti railway station as owner Ramchandra Gupta has refused to take it.

Now the value of lost good worth Rs. 10 lakh will be recovered from Railways on an assessment basis.

Chief public relation officer (North Eastern Railway) Sanjay Yadav said, "This wagon was found parked at a station under Northern Railway and was tracked when North Eastern Railways started looking for it."
