SURAT: A clerk employed at Surat railway station has been served a show cause notice after he was unable to explain recovery of additional Rs 7,000 in cash over and above the amount for which he had sold tickets. Firoz Kazi was trapped during a surprise check carried out by the officials from the office of divisional commercial manager.Sources informed that several filled up reservation forms were also recovered from Kazi during the checking. It is believed that he was working in connivance with the touts operating at the reservation counters. "Kazi has been asked to give an explanation. Further action will be taken only after he responds to the notice," said a railway official.Despite the nexus between touts and reservation clerks being exposed recently, the malpractices are continuing unabated. "Stringent actions are very much required. After strict action against touts by Railway Protection Force (RPF) the menace has come under control to some extent," said Rakesh Shah, member of Zonal Railway Users Committee.
