Guwahati : Fleet-footed Sibra Narzary struck in the dying minutes to clinch a 2-1 victory for NF Railway Sports Club against a young Gauhati Town Club team in a match of the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati super division football league at Nehru Stadium here today. In a match dominated by the railmen, the GTC boys could not quite get the co-ordination right in the first half. NFR, on their part, were a tad unlucky as a couple of shots hit the woodwork. In the second half, the railmen took control yet again, in terms of ball possession and occasionally creating scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes. The offensive paid dividends in the 55th minute of the match, as Bapa Biswas struck one off his left foot, inches outside the box, to beat goalkeeper Subal Rabha. Jolted by the goal, the GTC players tried to regroup and get their act together. From the 66th minute onwards, a sense of urgency crept in as they tried to create a few openings. The combination of Rakesh Das, John Sonowal and the dexterous K. Kamei all but helped them draw parity in the 71st minute. However, six minutes later Das headed one off a floater from the left to draw level. The pace of the match picked up thereafter. After a phase of attacks and counter-attacks, the railmen conjured up the winning goal in the 88th minute, with Narzary catching goalkeeper Ingo Singh unawares with a left footer from an acute angle. This was GTC's third loss in a row. Green Valley Travels Jibeswar Goswami first division league match between Rising XI and Rajbari Athletic Club ended in a goalless draw on the second turf of the Nehru Stadium today. |
