The much awaited survey on the proposed Mysore-Kushalnagar rail line by the Railway ministry has been completed and a report on it is likely to be presented to the Railway Board in a couple of weeks.Despite opposition to the project over fears over threat to ecology, inflow of migrants and loss of land to locals, survey on the 85 km rail line has been completed. Officials have worked out five different alignments via Yelwal, Bilikere, Hunsur, Periyapatna, Bylakuppe and Kushalnagar. The final report is expected to be ready in a week before it is sent to the board through proper channel. Railway authorities’ efforts to get clearance from revenue and other departments for surveys in Kushalnagar-Madikeri region could not take off due to lack of cooperation. The railways will conduct preliminary enquiry-cum-traffic survey to assess traffic, revenue and socio-economic factors. The railway board will look into the different alignments suggested by the survey agency and the local railway authorities. |
