Work on the much-awaited overbridge across the Palani-Dindigul rail track on the Dindigul-Tiruchi Highway is expected to be completed and the overbridge opened to traffic within three months.

Sources in the State Highways Department (SHD) said the Southern Railway had installed 21 deck slabs above the track and levelled the upper surface of the bridge in June. It had also constructed a pedestrian subway.

Next, the State Highways will connect the railway and road bridges and the subways on both sides of the track.

The one-kilometre long bridge will span three railway level-crossings and three underpasses at Balakrishnapuram.

Residents of more than 50 villages situated between Senthurai and Balakrishnapuram will benefit from this project which has an outlay of Rs.59.8 crore.

Additional plans

The State Highways and the Southern Railways have additional plans to construct a 750-metre-long underpass under the Palani railway track at RM Colony on Thadikombu Road, a subway at the railway level-crossing on the Dindigul-Gujiliamparai Road at MVM Nagar and a bridge near the railway level-crossing at Hanumandha Nagar.
