After recent train accidents near Kanpur, railway has instructed its officials to inspect railway tracks between 3 to 4 o clock in the morning. This drive will be conducted till February 5 to find out track fractures which are becoming root cause of most accidents. According to railways, it is able to detect 95% track fractures but the other 5% occur between 3 to 4 o clock in the morning because it is this time when the temperature is at its lowest. This drive will be conducted across the country so that miniscule of fractures can be traced. Besides the temperature, excess load of rail traffic is also taking a toll on rail tracks especially North Central Railway’s Kanpur region and Delhi – Howrah route is operating more than 150% from its capacity. Railway says this load cannot be shed till 2019 when dedicated freight corridor will come into play. In the mean time they cannot stop train services to control the fracture but frequency of inspection can be increased. |
