The railway line between Rayadurgam and Tumkur in Karnataka with an outlay of Rs.1,000 crore will be completed by 2014, said the minister for revenue N. Raghuveera Reddy.

He along with the Anantapur MP Ananta Venkatrami Reddy set the stone for the railway line works at Rayadurgam on Monday.

Mr Raghuveera Reddy said that the state government had released Rs.40 crore out of its total share of Rs.250 crore for the railway line works.

He admitted that the railway line has been delayed due to funds scarcity.

Mr Ananta Venkatrami Reddy has handed over a cheque for Rs.40 crore to the railway officials on the occasion.

Market yard chairman Raghunath Reddy, railway official Anand Bhaskar and MLC Gundumala Tippeswamy were present.

Elsewhere, speaking at the party activists’ meeting in Rayadurgam, Mr Raghuveera Reddy asserted that they were committed to the promises they had made during the elections despite their defeat in the bypoll.

“A state-level committee consisting of 10 ministers has been formed to improve the standards of the governance,” the minister said.

Stating that their party would honour the public’s verdict in the bypolls, he said that the people were already pondering over why they had voted in favour of YSR Congress in the byelections.

While referring to the iron ore mines in D.Hirehal mandal, Mr Raghuveera said that the plans are afoot to set up a steel factory by the state-run Kudremukh Iron Ore Company in the district.

“As many as 109 villages in Rayadurgam constituency will get water by December under the Sri Rami Reddy drinking water project with an outlay of Rs.220 crore,” the minister said.

Referring to the development in Rayadurgam R & B division, he said that the government had sanctioned Rs.48 crore for road works.

The minister also revealed plans to provide 5,136 white ration cards. 3,352 houses, 2,177 Deepam connections and 1,960 pensions in the district.

He called upon the cadre to work for the victory of party candidates in the ensuing local body elections.

Former DCC president Patil Venugopal Reddy, Anand Ranga Reddy and K.T. Sridhar were present.
