Sensing the large number of North East (NE) citizens leaving Pune city, the government railway police (GRP) have beefed up the security at Pune railway station. However, the police had tough time on Friday as on the one hand, they had to manage the crowd and on the other hand, they had to provide security for political leaders visiting the railway station. The GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were surprised to see a large crowd on Thursday as they were not prepared to handle them at Pune railway station. However, on Friday, the police had deployed additional police force at the Pune railway station for better security arrangements. Senior police inspector Mahendra Rokade of Pune GRP said, “On Thursday, we had not expected so much crowd at the station and hence, there was a small police force but we still managed to provide security to all travellers.” Rokade added, “On Friday, we deployed four police sub-inspectors, an assistant police inspector, a police inspector and 50 police personnel. We were helped by 25 RPF personnel.”Along with NE passengers at the station, there were continuous visits of leaders of political parties due to which the police had to provide security to them also. Police officials told DNA, “It was a very difficult task for us to provide security to both NE students and political leaders at the same time on Friday.”

Due to the additional burden of providing security to political leaders, the police could not manage the crowd like they did on Thursday and when the train arrived at platform number one, there was a chaotic situation with passengers rushing to board the train.
