Title - Pre-monsoon works completed at railway stations

PUNE: In a bid to avoid water logging on railway tracks during heavy rains, the Pune railway administration has appealed to residential societies located along the railway tracks, not to open drainage lines on railway tracks. The administration has warned the societies that they could face an action if found dumping garbage on railway tracks or if found releasing drainage water on rail tracks.

A senior railway official said that residential societies are located close to rail tracks between Dapodi and Akurdi stations. The drainages of societies are open near the tracks at some locations. We have appealed to these societies to take corrective measures, he said.

An official further said that the administration is done with pre-monsoon works. Channels are cleared near the tracks especially at the location vulnerable to water logging during heavy rainfall. Official said that channels get chocked because of plastic waste which further restricts the flow of water. The passengers and rail users have been urged not to throw plastic waste on tracks. The administration will put boards creating awareness about the issue at prominent railway stations to appeal to the people to restrict use of plastic material.

The administration said that works to repair the leakages of platform sheds has almost been completed at all the stations between Pune station and Lonavla. A special monsoon cell will be established to monitor the situation if required during heavy rains.
