NALHATI : Railway minister Mukul Roy laid the foundation stones for a road over bridge and an underpass at Nalhati railway station this evening. Though Trinamul ministers and party MLAs were present, the local Congress MLA, Mr Abhijit Mukherjee, was not to be seen as he was allegedly not invited. "What surprises me is that the initiative for the project was taken by me and former railway minister Dinesh Trivedi," said Mr Abhijit Mukherjee, Congress MLA of Nalhati and son of Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. Mr Roy has, however, given all credit for the department's plans to former railway minister Mamata Banerjee. Relations between the allies seemed to have soured at a time when the official notification for the Nalhati civic poll will be issued tomorrow. Speaking at the railway programme, which turned out to be the Trinamul's election campaign, Mr Roy said: "I have told Mr Biplab Ojha, the chairman of the civic body, that if the party performs well in the election, more prizes are waiting for him and the people of Nalhati." |
